Facebook Officially Recognizes Russia's Intervention In The US Elections

Facebook has admitted that some of the ads that Russians bought on Facebook last year promoted events during the US presidential campaign, suggesting that the alleged intervention before the 2016 elections bypassed social media.

Facebook said in a statement that its closure of what the company described last week with the pages of the Russians included the cessation of "many of the events that have been promoted." Facebook declined to give details of those events.

Facebook, wich is the world's largest social networking platform, said last week that a Russian-based operation was likely to have put thousands of US ads that included divisive views on topics such as immigration, race and gay rights on the site in a two-year period until May 2017.

Facebook said it will continue to cooperate with the US authorities if necessary.

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin denied his government's interference in the US election.
